Leon County sued over Summerfield vote HERE ARE
THE FACTS: |
| Would
you like to struggle in commuter traffic with an additional 1000+ cars on
North Monroe (US 27) during already heavy traffic? |

Would
you like to see 13 3-story apartment buildings in the middle of our
quiet residential areas? Would you like to see this directly across the
street from Lake Jackson? Want to see a road cut through your
neighborhood at Viewpoint for additional traffic, well, its coming. |
| Would
you like to see the Old Bainbridge Canopy Road compromised? Can Old Bainbridge
handle more traffic? Though we were able to stop the direct access from
the PUD to Old Bainbridge Road, some of the traffic from the PUD will take
Perkins Road to Old Bainbridge Road, especially the traffic headed to FSU. |

If your answer is "NO"
read on." |
| |
| On October 26, 2004 The Leon County Commission voted 4/3 to change the zoning of this area from Lake Protection to Planned Unit Development (PUD). Many citizens stood up and advised and begged the county to hold fast and keep the area zoned Lake Protection. Unfortunately 4 County Commissioners supported the developer rather than Lake Jackson and THE PUD WAS APPROVED. |
| |
| Current Lake Protection allowed for some development and that is OK. 53 Houses, and a few more with "Clustering" (hey, I did not invent the term). here is what they did. |
| |
|
|
| |
| We do thank Commissioners Winchester, Rackleff, and Thaell for their strong support of Lake Jackson and their "NO" vote on this project. |
| |
| We were so close ! Here is what they said Yes to: 13 - 3 story
apartment buildings with 312 units, 175 single family tract houses 120,000
square feet retail/commercial over 15 acres of parking alone! |
| |
| All this intense development on 107 acres directly across the street on US 27 from Lake Jackson (west of Lake Jackson), a state aquatic preserve of worldwide
significance. Go to the Leon County Website and read about what a critical water body resource Lake Jackson is:
http://www.co.leon.fl.us/lcswm/jackson/Pictures/Info.asp. Reading the Leon County's own words makes us all wonder how this could have happened. |
| |
| But it is not over yet. We are pursuing all legal options available for the defense of Lake Jackson. Stay tuned to our Web site, www.LakeJacksonAlliance.org, for current information. |
| |
| We are also asking you to consider joining us in defense of Lake Jackson by contributing to our Legal Fund. Time is of the essence as we move forward quickly. |
